Certifications!

Part 1: AWS Certified Cloud Practioner

Credentials:
I passed the AWS Certified Cloud Practioner in November of 2020 with a score of 760, After approximately 3 months of study with no previous experience in AWS. Test was taken from home using a pearson proctor because of covid.

Below is how I accomplished this!

1. Study Materials -
My primary study method for this was to use freecodecamp.com's aws ccp training video hosted by AWS expert Andrew Brown.  This video was great at teaching me the basics of AWS. and prepared me greatly.

2. Second was the AWS CCP practice exam set by Tutorialdojo   This gave a great and very accurate emulation of the real exam.  About the same skill level. and there are 6 tests.

Study Method

How i studied for this was by going through the entire 4 hour youtube course.  Then jumping right into the practice exams.  Note AWS is the most popular cloud environment with many creators writing articles and making videos about it.  If there is something on the test you do not know, there is a piece of content on the internet that can aid you.  Continue taking the practice tests until you are consistently passing, then you should be ready to take the test and pass.

Part 2: AWS Solutions Architect Associate

Credentials:
I passed the AWS Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C02) with a score of 767 in March of 2022.  I took this test at home (this time because i wanted too).   I previously had pass the AWS Certified Cloud Practioner.

Below is how I accomplished this!

1. Study Materials -  I used quite a few materials for this exam, first i went back to the Tutorial Dojo SAA practice exams, this time i was recommended An AWS SAA Study Guide book from someone who passed from amazon which provides a great structured study course with a lot of practice exams. Also google is your friend, most aws google searches will land you in the AWS   Documentation page where they will give you insights into their various products.  This exam is a mile wild so use anything that will get you to learn it.

Study Method

I studied for this differently than for the previous exam, I (1) skimmed through the book, then (2) Started doing the review portion of the practice exams on tutorial dojo.  Whenever i came across an answer i did not know, I (3) google searched it and went to the AWS documentation to get clarity, if you hate reading, hope there is a Youtube video that can show you clarity.

Dont only learn why an answer is correct, also learn why the other answers are wrong.

Once you are consistantly scoring above 80% proceed to the exam

Exam tips

- There are a lot of AWS services with really similar names, create ways to differentiate them (Random page has some)

- Make sure you know EBS, EFS, S3 and basic VPC/Networking

- Take your time reading each question, make sure you understand what the question is asking before you conclude an answer.  Reading comprehension is massively underrated, avoid easy  mistakes.

Part 3: AWS Security Specialty

Credentials:
I passed the AWS Security Specialty (SCS-C01) with a score of 775 in September of 2022.  I took this test at home.   I previously had pass the AWS Certified Cloud Practioner and the AWS Solutions Architect Associate.

Below is how I accomplished this!

Study Materials -  The materials i used for this were very similar to the ones i used for the SAA.  For this exam i used the Tutorials Dojo AWS Security Specialty practice exams and the Sybex AWS Security study guide.  The chapter based practice tests are a great asset.  google, youtube, and documentation through aws are your friend.

Study Method

This time i decided to take a different approach, this time i started with the tdojo practice exams just to get a grip on what i would be dealing with, and for every question i got wrong i searched for documentation as to why.

After i began passing exams consistently, i schedule my exam for a month out, and began the book, and the book practice tests, the book filled in the gaps that the td practice exams missed.  Also there are sample questions on the AWS website as well that you can take for fun.

Exam tips

-  Way more scenario based multi-answer question than SAA

- learn the integral differences between security groups and NACLs inspector

- WAF, shield, guarduty, and macie can overlap in many areas, ensure you know the difference.
- The exam is long, take necessary breaths to avoid burnout
- AWS config has a lot of uses, know them all.
- Take your time reading each question, make sure you understand what the question is asking before you conclude an answer.  Reading comprehension is massively underrated, avoid easy  mistakes.

Part 4: Azure Fundamentals

Credentials:
I passed the Azure Fundamentals exam (AZ-900) in January of 2023.  I took this test at home.   I previously had passed the exams above, and this was my first Microsoft or Azure exam.

Below is how I accomplished this!

Study Materials -  The materials i used for this were very different compared to the AWS exams. I used the Microsoft Learn Learning Path: "Describe cloud concepts".  I watched the John Savill AZ-900 training course on Youtube. I also attended the Microsoft virtual training day: Fundamentals.  For Practice tests i used the Tutorials dojo Azure fundamentals practice exams.

Study Method

For this exam i began by Taking a practice exam just to see where i was at.  Next, i went through the entire John Savill fundamentals youtube playlist to get acquainted with the logic of Azure.  Then i went through and took all three Tutorial dojo practice exams.  I went to the Azure training day in the middle of that because there was a promotion to get my exam free if i attended.  I didnt expect much, but it was very insightful and they did some amazing labs.  Lastly before the exam i went through the microsoft learn to close the gaps i may have had.  I found it interesting that microsoft had a learning platform to train you for the exams.  It was short, but insightful.  I ended up passing the exam in 12 minutes.

Part 5: Azure Administrator

Credentials:
I passed the Azure Administrator exam (AZ-104) in February of 2023.  I took this test at home.   I previously had passed the exams above, and this was my second Azure exam.

Below is how I accomplished this!

Study Materials -  For this exam the materials I used included the Whizlabs practice exams, the Microsoft Learn training path for AZ-104, the John Savill AZ-104 youtube playlist, and the Tutorials dojo AZ-104 practice exams. The addition of the whizlab exams came from recommendations from multiple reddit posts.

Study Method

For this exam i began by Going through the entire Microsoft Learn course for AZ-104. The course was very long and took a few weeks to finish, but the interactive labs, constant quizzes, breaking it up into digestible sections made it very easy to learn. It was VERY HELPFUL.  Afterward i began using the whizlab practice exams and for any question i got wrong i consulted microsoft documentation or watched a John Savill video from his course. Once i passed those exams consistently, i took the tutorials dojo to see if i would get the same result, and when i did, i went forward and passed the exam.

Get A little better everyday!
